RIKEN TECHNOS Develops New Environmentally Friendly Compound with Low Density and High Fire Resistance

RIKEN TECHNOS CORPORATION (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & CEO: Kazuaki Tokiwa) has developed a low-density, high-fire-resistance compound that is environmentally friendly while also contributing toward reducing workload.

The RIKEN TECHNOS GROUP provides materials for products associated with power generation and transmission/distribution facilities in the infrastructure sectors. In recent years, the aging of workers and a shortage of manpower have become major issues in the construction industry. To solve these issues and meet labor-saving needs, RIKEN TECHNOS undertook development of a low-density, high-fire-resistance compound for electrical materials that is lighter, easier to handle, and friendlier to the environment. Reducing the weight of materials contributes toward improving workability and reducing workload.

Features of the new compound

Lightweight

Compared to existing materials, weight has been reduced by approximately 16%, allowing workload to be reduced during transportation and application.

Flammability rating

In the burning test based on UL 94, a standard for evaluating the flammability (fire resistance) of plastic materials used in device parts, fire resistance equivalent to a flammability rating of 5VA was achieved^* for a test sample with a thickness of 2 mm.
It has excellent self-extinguishing properties, helping to reduce the risk of fire, such as fire spreading.

Antimony-free and halogen-free design

By eliminating the use of antimony in all constituent materials, this product addresses environmental risks, resource constraints, and increasingly stringent regulations. In addition, the product is designed to be environmentally responsible, as it contains no halogen compounds.
