Launch of Fresh Balance® Freshness Preservation Film
Freshness preservation film for produce that helps to reduce food loss and supports sustainable food business
RIKEN TECHNOS CORPORATION (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & CEO: Kazuaki Tokiwa) has developed and launched the freshness preservation film, Fresh Balance®.

▼ Background and purpose of development
Demand for long-term storage of vegetables and fruits (produce) has been increasing against the backdrop of social issues such as food loss as well as labor shortages in the agriculture and transportation sectors. To address these challenges, we focused on the properties of polymethylpentene resin and developed the freshness preservation film, Fresh Balance®, using our proprietary thin film technology.
As produce continues to respire even after harvest, its freshness declines over time. The freshness preservation period can be extended by appropriately controlling this respiration and transpiration.
By extending the storage period of produce using Fresh Balance, we support planned shipment by producers and contribute to providing consumers with a stable supply of highly fresh produce. We aim to realize sustainable food business that is friendly and convenient for both producers and consumers.

▼ Performance evaluation of Fresh Balance

Note: Fresh Balance does not guarantee freshness preservation effects for all types of produce.
▼ Product features
1. Ease of handling
The film has self-adhesive properties and flexibility, allowing it to fit various shapes.
2. Non-perforated type
The film prevents insect intrusion and contamination by foreign matter.
3. High gas permeability and moisture permeability
The characteristics of polymethylpentene resin allow appropriate permeation of water vapor, suppressing wilting and mold growth.

We will continue to deepen our research into the mechanisms of produce freshness preservation and propose optimal ways to use Fresh Balance tailored to various stages such as production and distribution.
We will continue to take on the challenge of developing products that contribute to solving social issues, including reducing food loss.
